Spotlight On: Integrated Services Division

Far Beyond Products
Winkle Electric’s Integrated Services Division exists to
provide solutions that go far beyond providing top-quality
products. Winkle Electric is committed to "being an
integral part of our customers' success". We are invested in
our clients' long-term success. We equate your costs to an
iceberg. The part that is showing is the most easily seen and
often times the easiest to remedy—your material costs. This
is a critical part of your success and we work with customers
on a daily basis to ensure that they are purchasing
state-of-the-art products at "best of class" pricing levels.
For many of our customers we are taking those relationships
to a new level and delving "under the water" to help spot
problems and offer solutions to lower costs in areas that
don’t have catalog numbers.
Our scope includes anything you can think of related to the
purchase, design, implementation, use, maintenance and
retirement of a project or process. We refer to this as the
total cost of ownership (TCO). We collaborate with your
team to identify possible areas for improvement.
Once this assessment is complete, our Integrated Services
Division lays out a plan of action to maximize your return
on net assets. We will also work with you to provide a
detailed strategy should any problems arise.

A Look Back, A Look Forward - by Robert Conger Vice President of Sales

In 2011, Winkle Electric once again worked to remain an integral
piece of the puzzle for our valued customers, new and old, by constantly
seeking out ways to provide an invaluable competitive edge. One way
we’ve done this is through the integrated utilization of our five company
divisions, offering tailor-made, comprehensive solutions to not only
improve our customers’ efficiency, but help them achieve sustainable
profitability and address their unique challenges, head-on.
At the end of 2010 we were celebrating our resistance of the status
quo as we implemented the exciting advancement of our Eco Solutions
Division. In 2011, I’m proud to report we took these initiatives for
environmentally sound and sustainable business practices even further.
Eco Solutions Division aids customers to control rising energy costs,
reduce environmental footprints and increase company value and
competitiveness. Eco Solutions helps our customers achieve cost savings
while reducing energy consumption, and our specialists make customer
ease-of-use and ongoing education their top priority.
Every company is responsible for their part in reducing energy
consumption and improving the environment; our goal is to make the
fulfillment of that responsibility as easy for our customers as we can. We are looking forward to a greener 2012.

Rockwell Automation Activation Update

For the last 3 years Rockwell has been changing their software
activation process from EVRIS (floppy disk) activation to the
new FactoryTalk Activation method, where software activation
is done via the web. During the changeover period, the
software has supported either the old EVRIS method or the
new FactoryTalk activation, giving customers a chance to
migrate their existing software over. As of this past July 5, 2011,
all new software shipped from Rockwell will support ONLY the
new FactoryTalk Activation method.
If you have existing software running on EVRIS, this change
will not affect you ‘UNTIL’ you upgrade your software to the
latest version(s). At that time it will be necessary for you to
change over.
Migration to the new method can be done at any time and is
free of charge. All you need to do is call Rockwell’s tech
support activations group with your serial number and they will
provide you with the FactoryTalk Activation information
needed to re-activate your software. No support contract is
required for this service.

Winkle Celebrates Summer with Offerings from our Integrated Services Division

With the first official day of summer fast approaching, it’s hard to not think
about all the fun activities the season has to offer, not to mention the sun and
high temperatures we’re sure to experience as well. As part of our Integrated
Services Division, our three-pronged approach to maximizing profits is much
like a day at the beach. To optimize day-to-day operations, we at Winkle--
predict, prevent and react.
At the predictive level, we examine every aspect
of production. We ensure that all personnel and
equipment issues are addressed, while working to
predict potential failures and optimize scheduling
of planned downtime, labor and materials. This
is much like predicting the weather. The forecast
said it would be 95 and sunny, but what about
the chance of scattered showers? At Winkle we are
prepared for all situations.
From the preventative standpoint, we provide asset management services,
implementation of safety programs, network evaluation and a security plan.
Training programs are implemented to maximize the productivity of your most
valuable asset-personnel. If the weatherman’s prediction was right, the blazing
sun is sure to be hot, so in order to prevent nasty sunburn, sun screen is a good
idea. We are all about safety at Winkle, and will take the necessary precautions
to prevent danger.
In the reactionary mode, we assist with on-site support services, including
callout services, start-up planning and even embedded engineers. Repair services
and renewal parts also fall in this reactionary mode, ensuring that if and when
problems do arise, they are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Now back to your
day at the beach. If those storm clouds do roll in, whipping out the umbrella or
heading home for the day might be a good plan. At Winkle, no matter what the
situation, we will react in a safe and professional manner.
We want to be an integral part of our customers’ success.
Tom Doland from Lean Beam Inc. has worked with Winkle in the past.
“Your team has run the extra yard to provide solutions while saving us
dollars in areas we would not have seen...we look forward to working
with Winkle on future projects.”
With any project we work on, we want the customer to get the most out of
their experience, just like getting the most out of your day at the beach!

New Team Member

David Crook joined our team in February as a sales representative for our Eco-Solutions Division. He will be assisting customers in saving energy by performing Energy Audits and specifying products to reduce their carbon footprint. David is a member of IES (Illuminating Engineers Society) and has worked in the lighting industry for 31 years—most recently as a volunteer at The Butler Museum of American Art where he specified and designed lighting systems.
Crook specified and
designed an energy saving LED system for the new addition for their Howland branch for Pierre Soulages’ masterpiece, “14 May 1968.” When asked about his initial thoughts about Winkle, Crook responded, “The things that impressed me about Winkle Electric was the professionalism and that they encourage training, not only for the employees, but also for our customers.
I find that the most rewarding aspect of my job is the ability to find energy saving solutions for our customers and helping my fellow employees with lighting issues.” David is the proud father of two. Michelle, a Senior Electrical Engineer for ABB, in Cleveland, and Michael, who’s finishing his degree in Cat Scan with highest honors (after graduating with honors, last fall with a Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Medicine). He enjoys helping his parents on projects at their home as well as traveling,
fishing and golf.
We are excited to have David as part of our team! Welcome.

2010 from Our Perspective by Robert Conger

At the beginning of 2010 we found ourselves mired in a major
recession, when most businesses were putting a freeze on
new initiatives, marketing endeavors and ideas. This stagnant
attitude was not apparent at Winkle—on the contrary our
team was planning for a major ‘green’ company overhaul.
The creation of our Eco Solutions Division was markedly
the most significant change for our company this year. We’re
hopeful that our eco-services will have the same impact
of positive change for the companies we collaborate with.
Specializing in eco-friendly energy alternatives, the Eco
Solutions Division is helping customers save money while
reducing their energy consumption.
We’ve also shifted our marketing media to a digital
distribution strategy, saving trees one project at a time. Winkle
is now sharing ideas, events, industry news and product
announcements in real-time on our website, in our bi-monthly
e-newsletter, on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. We hope
you’ve noticed the changes and appreciate our sustainable
efforts. May your 2011 be a little greener too.

Eco Solutions Division Manager Now a LEED-Certified Green Associate
The Eco Solutions Division is led by Scott Kennemuth, who recently received his LEED Green Associate credential. The LEED Green Associate credential is intended for professionals who want to demonstrate green building expertise in non-technical fields of practice. The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) created the LEED Green Associate credential to denote basic knowledge of green design, construction
and operations.
Scott has been in the electrical field for over 30 years, during which time he has performed lighting assessments, layouts, ROI analysis and retrofits for many companies of various sizes. Kennemuth also has experience in energy audits, work cell cost analysis and electrical demand management projects.
While spearheading the new division, Kennemuth will develop green strategies and solutions for Winkle customers. Scott elaborated, “This can be as simple as a lighting retrofit project or as complex as total project ownership. We will assist the customer with grant writing, scope of project, ROI analysis, installation and certification.”
Scott’s LEED credential, combined with Winkle’s USGBC membership, will provide notoriety for Scott and this new division. Kennemuth brings enthusiasm and experience to this new position. “As with most Winkle employees, it gives us great satisfaction to partner with a customer to solve a problem. It’s a wonderful thing when we can reduce a customer’s overall energy cost and help the environment at the same time.”
